Last month we discussed who had the best Avenger superhero costume and thought, “Why not check out some supervillains, too?” Our Halloween shop has created a list of the most sinister supervillains ever to grace the pages of our favourite comic books.
To create our list of top evildoers, we pinpointed the characters that have wreaked the most havoc in their respective universes. Some are strong, systematic, and capable of world domination; others are just functionally insane.
Let us know if you agree or disagree with our list on Facebook!
Any being that wipes out half of the universe with a snap of its finger is not to be trifled with.
Thanos is a member of the Eternal race, a powerful group of beings that colonized on the moons of Saturn. Growing up, he was a pacifist but he quickly changed his ways when he fell in love with Mistress Death. To impress this physical embodiment of evil, Thanos destroyed most of his homeworld and then set his eyes on conquering Earth.
Thanos is one bad purple dude! He also gets major style points for having a sweet glove covered in sparkly diamonds.
What Thanos is to Marvel, Darkseid is to DC. Darkseid is the king of the planet Apokolips, the God of Evil, and is one terrible mama-jama! Darkseid has one goal, to conquer and rule all life with an iron fist.
Ready for something really trippy? Darkseid’s spirit lies in a separate dimension called the Fourth World. He then forms avatars with his consciousness to interact with the universes around him, which give Darkseid a physical form. If Darkseid’s spirit leaves the Fourth World, entire universes would instantly collapse. Whoa.
Anyone want to be Darkseid for Halloween?
Everyone’s favourite Clown Prince of Crime. The Joker and Batman have been battling it out for decades but neither has gotten the upper hand. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the Joker’s most sinister feats:
- Turned Harley Quinn from a prominent therapist into his love-crazed sidekick
- Poisoned all of Gotham, multiple times
- Countless assaults on civilians
- Murdered Jason Todd (AKA Robin)
- Shot Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) in the spine
His chaotic approach to tyranny has captivated audiences for generations. With Joaquin Pheonix taking the role of our favourite clown in a new film that’s currently in the works, we’re excited to see new dimensions he adds to this psychotic character.
We’re also expecting to see an increase in Joker Halloween costumes this fall.
What happens when an alien symbiote bonds with a deranged serial killer? Carnage!
With the runaway success of Venom at the box office last year, Sony is working hard to bring us another Spider-Man spinoff. This time, Woody Harrelson has been tapped to become the evil being known as Carnage.
If his name didn’t give it away, think of Carnage as a red parasitic alien who loves spreading mayhem. While Venom is an anti-hero of sorts and sometimes teams up with Spider-Man to take down the baddies, Carnage is pure evil, bent on destruction.
We saw some incredible Venom getups last year. After Carnage drops sometime in 2020, we’re sure to see some red aliens running around with some incredible Halloween costumes.
